Heavy rain caused by the country's cloud-seeding programme lashed parts of Sharjah and Fujairah on Tuesday afternoon. Residents took to Twitter to share videos of the heavy spell in Khorfakkan and Sharm areas. Light showers were also reported in Al Shamkhah, Sweihan, Makassib Island, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Bani Yas and Al Faya areas in the capital. Parts of Al Ain also experienced light rain. The National Centre of Meteorology has issued an alert covering a large swathe of the coast, stretching from the far west of Abu Dhabi to the outskirts of Dubai. Cloud, accompanied by the possibility of rain and gusts of wind of up to 50kph will sweep in, blowing dust and sand which could affect visibility at times, said the bureau. Conditions will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and moderate in the Sea of Oman. Temperatures could reach a high of 35°C on the coast and 37°C inland. Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to drive carefully and to follow the speed limits. On Sunday, the bureau warned the country was facing a week of unsettled weather, which could bring thunder and lightning on Wednesday and Thursday.
