ABU DHABI // Residents of a Bosnian village are to benefit from a US$186,000 (Dh683,000) clean water project launched by the Emirates Red Crescent.
About 1,000 families in the village of Travnik will have access to safe water as part of the UAE Suqia Initiative, state news agency Wam said.
“The ERC has been working diligently to deliver objectives of the UAE Suqia Initiative by digging wells, provision of water tanks, purification of water for drinking, and the provision of solutions for wastage of water,” said Salem Al Ameri, the head of the ERC in Al Ain.
Mr Al Ameri was attending the inauguration of the project with Admir Hadziemric, president of Travnik municipality.
He said the initiative’s scope included projects in the arid areas of Asia and Africa.
Mr Hadziemric expressed his appreciation to the ERC for completing the project in 40 days, according to Wam.
The project was expected to shorten the journey villagers have to make to fetch water. It was implemented after studies on drinking water in rural areas.
The initiative was launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to provide clean water to about five million people worldwide.
