A fire broke out at an under construction building on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi on Friday noon. Abu Dhabi Civil Defence received a report about the incident at 12:24pm and firefighters along with police patrols were immediately dispatched to the site. Brigadier Mohammed Al Ketbi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, said that the fire started at the building’s ground floor, no injuries were reported. “Firefighters managed to control the blaze in a record time and performed cooling operations afterwards,” said Brigadier Al Ketbi He urged building contractors and supervisors to follow the fire safety and prevention requirements at under construction buildings and avoid storing flammable materials in ground floors. Two residents told <em>The National</em> earlier that a thick black smoke poured from the low-rise apartment block opposite the Oceanscape building, next to the Kite building in the Shams area of the island. Investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the fire.
