First phase of UAE-funded hospital in Pakistan is completed

DUBAI // The initial phase of a UAE-funded hospital in Pakistan has been completed, with work continuing on the rest of the development, which is one of the country’s largest health projects.

The Emirates Hospital is being built at a cost of Dh397 million in Islamabad and is one of many projects being undertaken in Pakistan under the directives of the President, Sheikh Khalifa, according to state news agency Wam.

The UAE’s Project to Assist Pakistan, established to implement humanitarian and development projects in the country, said it would be a specialist hospital to treat several medical issues.

On completion, it will have 1,000 beds and 16 well-equipped surgical theatres, where at least 50 operations can be carried out each day.

The hospital will aim to provide the best medical care and will be academically approved to train interns. It will also train and upgrade the skills of physicians and help them meet graduation requirements as they advance.

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation are paying for half of the project.

The Emirates Hospital is one of 21 development projects in Islamabad being implemented by the UAE project at a total cost of Dh676m.

Other initiatives include building three colleges, four professional and vocational education centres for women and road building.

The projects are also supported by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister.
