Friday sermon: nourish yourself with all that is lawful and good

God has commanded believers to nourish themselves with all that is lawful and good from his creation.

Worshippers will be told Allah created the Earth and has prepared sustenance most appropriate for them.

“And eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allah, in whom you are believers.” [Quran:5:88]

“And there is no creature on earth except that upon Allah is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and storage. All of this is in a clear register.” [Quran: 11:6]

“And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.” [Quran: 15:20]

God called upon mankind to seek the halal, what is lawful and permitted, through their earnings and living on Earth.

“O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good.” [Quran: 2:168]

The pure (tayyib) is that which benefits the body and which is wholeheartedly accepted by the soul and God singled out the prophets and messengers with this call.

What a person earns through his own toil from the halal, is the purest of ways he earns a living. Likewise for his children.

Prophet Mohammed said: “The purest a man eats is that which he has earned himself, and his child (and their wealth) is from his earnings.” [Tirmidhi]

The sermon will say that God has forbidden Muslims from earning money in a manner that contravenes sacred law (the Sharia).

While Prophet Mohammed warned them against being hasty in seeking to attain one’s prescribed sustenance, such that they take it through means that are not permissible.
