Friday sermon: The human mind is a blessing

The human mind is a blessing that should be used for development and problem solving, worshippers will be told on Friday.

Allah privileged mankind with certain features that distinguished them from other creatures, today’s sermon says.

“Verily we have honoured the children of Adam. We carry them on the land and the sea, and have made provision of good things for them, and have preferred them above many of those whom We created with a marked preferment,” says a verse from the Quran.

“And the best of what Allah has preferred mankind with is the blessing of the brain,” the sermon says. “So the human can benefit and not harm, build and not destroy, establish good for himself, society and humanity.

“But seek the abode of the Hereafter in that which Allah hath given thee and neglect not thy portion of the world, and be thou kind even as Allah hath been kind to thee, and seek not corruption in the earth; lo! Allah loveth not corrupters,” says another Quranic verse.

Allah has instructed mankind to explore the earth and the skies, study their nature and contents and to benefit from their order.

“He also ordered us to study the situation of previous nations to benefit from their positivities and avoid their negativities, and to give birth to new ideas to develop our lives and solve our problems,” the sermon says.

The Quran narrated many stories of human creativity such as the building of ships, which was taught to the prophet Noah, and manufacturing shields which was taught to prophet Dawood, and discovering medicine from bees.

“Then eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of thy Lord, made smooth (for thee). There cometh forth from their bellies a drink diverse of hues, wherein is healing for mankind. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for people who reflect,” it says in the Quran.
