Abu Dhabi Police launches off-road motorcycles

ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi Police will start using off-road motorcycles to patrol remote areas that are inaccessible to regular police vehicles.

Maj Gen Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said the new off-road motorcycle patrols will help ensure quicker access to accidents in secluded or hard-to-reach areas, such as farms and camping sites. The patrol officers are trained and equipped to offer first aid and rescue services. The motorcycles are equipped with fire extinguishers, state-of-the-art location and communication systems, vehicle-towing and tyre inflating techniques.

These patrols, which can perform security and field monitoring duties to prevent crime, will enhance police presence in remote areas, said Maj Gen Al Rumaithi.

The launch of the new patrol service falls under a development and innovation project that involves all police departments.
