Ajman residents thankful for chance to pay their respects to martyrs

AJMAN // Emirati residents welcomed Commemoration Day, seeing it as a chance to pay their respects and also to take pride in their country.

Honouring martyrs by having an annual day to celebrate them would motivate all citizens to pay with their lives for the country, said Khalid Yousef Al Ali.

“We should commemorate the martyrs and express our love for this country and its martyrs as we honour them because this will motivate all Emiratis to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the UAE,” the 30-year-old said. “Because they sacrificed the most valuable thing they have, their life, for the sake of the homeland, they deserve to be honoured.”

Mr Al Ali said it was good to see that the nation and the Government were with the martyrs’ families and that their sacrifices were appreciated.

Mr Al Ali, who works for the Ministry of Interior, visited a martyr’s family on Monday morning to offer his support and to tell them to be proud of what their son did for the UAE.

Striking a similar tone, Emirati businessman Naser Saif Al Kaabi said Commemoration Day was for the country to express its sadness over losing its sons and its pride for the sacrifices they have made.

The 36-year-old said that the patriotism in the hearts of Emiratis was planted by the country’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed.

“What Sheikh Zayed taught us and planted in all Emiratis’ hearts is that patriotism comes before anything.” Mr Al Kaabi said this meant they put protection of the UAE before life.

He said he prayed for martyrs and asked God to accept them all in Paradise and to give their families the strength to withstand their loss.

Khalifa Salim Ibrahim, 49, said: “All martyrs deserve everything that is given and will be given to them and their families, whether it is incorporeal or material.

“And this day will always remind us of these great fallen heroes and it will definitely motivate all Emiratis to be ready at any moment to sacrifice their souls for the UAE.”
