Medics in the capital were treated to a free breakfast on the first day of Eid in a gesture of gratitude from Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. The Mother of the Nation sent meals for healthcare workers in several hospitals in Abu Dhabi and congratulated them on the occasion of Eid al Fitr. "Medical teams have proven that they are our first line of defence against the pandemic, and they have shown the values of sacrifice and giving away from their families and loved ones, to protect our own loved ones and families,” said Sheikha Fatima, who is the chairwoman of the General Women's Union and president of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood. She said healthcare workers deserve appreciation and recognition for their sacrifices in the fight against the pandemic. “We thank the Mother of the UAE for supporting medical teams in the field from all health establishments in the emirate. She has always supported everyone who has contributed to the advancement of our country. I am pleased to thank and appreciate all workers in this sector, for their significant efforts under the current conditions,” said Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, chairman of the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi. In March, Sheikha Fatima sent medics personal protective equipment made by Emirati volunteers. The donation was part of the Their Protection is Our Responsibility scheme, which was rolled out by the General Women's Union (GWU), Family Development Foundation and the Zayed Giving Initiative. The programme also included educating professionals on how they can help protect themselves against the infection.
