Emirates Red Crescent began its winter aid campaign with a shipment of goods for disadvantaged families in Italy and Macedonia.
The UAE's largest charitable organisation will support people in 25 countries this year.
Ahmed Al Mulla, the UAE's deputy head of mission at the UAE Embassy to Italy, oversaw the delivery of heating equipment and winter clothing with Ricardo Monti, chairman of the Emirates-Italian Business Council, and Prof Marco Rossi, director of the Catholic charity Sant'Egidio.
ERC recently distributed winter aid to about 15,000 families in Italy, San Marino and Macedonia.
In the coming days, the programme will also see the distribution of aid in the cities of Assisi and Milan, and again in San Marino and Macedonia.
Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the UAE has donated hundreds of tonnes and millions of dollars worth of aid to countries, including large shipments of personal protective equipment.

Another way to earn air miles
In addition to the Emirates and Etihad programmes, there is the Air Miles Middle East card, which offers members the ability to choose any airline, has no black-out dates and no restrictions on seat availability. Air Miles is linked up to HSBC credit cards and can also be earned through retail partners such as Spinneys, Sharaf DG and The Toy Store.
An Emirates Dubai-London round-trip ticket costs 180,000 miles on the Air Miles website. But customers earn these ‘miles’ at a much faster rate than airline miles. Adidas offers two air miles per Dh1 spent. Air Miles has partnerships with websites as well, so booking.com and agoda.com offer three miles per Dh1 spent.
“If you use your HSBC credit card when shopping at our partners, you are able to earn Air Miles twice which will mean you can get that flight reward faster and for less spend,” says Paul Lacey, the managing director for Europe, Middle East and India for Aimia, which owns and operates Air Miles Middle East.

Why your domicile status is important
Your UK residence status is assessed using the statutory residence test. While your residence status – ie where you live - is assessed every year, your domicile status is assessed over your lifetime.
Your domicile of origin generally comes from your parents and if your parents were not married, then it is decided by your father. Your domicile is generally the country your father considered his permanent home when you were born.
UK residents who have their permanent home ("domicile") outside the UK may not have to pay UK tax on foreign income. For example, they do not pay tax on foreign income or gains if they are less than £2,000 in the tax year and do not transfer that gain to a UK bank account.
A UK-domiciled person, however, is liable for UK tax on their worldwide income and gains when they are resident in the UK.
