A clean-up operation was under way in Umm Al Quwain on Saturday morning, after fire ripped through a factory on Friday evening, forcing the evacuation of 40 people from the site. Storage silos, a warehouse and manufacturing equipment were destroyed in the massive blaze. Civil defence teams from UAQ and Ras Al Khaimah combined to bring the flames under control, after arriving on the scene shortly after 5pm. Investigations are under way as to the cause of the blaze. Firefighters continued damping down the site for some time afterwards, to ensure high winds and rising temperatures in the Northern Emirates did not rekindle the flames. No injuries were reported.
