DUBAI // An international women’s sports conference will be held in the capital in November.
The fourth edition of the two-day International Conference of Sports for Women is organised by the Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and will be held under the theme “Inspiring Generations”.
Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Media, which publishes The National, are founding partners of the event, while Health Authority Abu Dhabi and Dolphin Energy are main partners.
The success of the conference over the last few years has sealed its reputation as an important event for the sport industry, said Dr Omniyat Al Hajeri, board member of the academy.
Dr Ali bin Tamim, managing director of Abu Dhabi Media, said the company is committed to supporting opportunities for UAE communities to learn, develop and participate in events.
The conference is “unparalleled in its ability to connect inspiring women of all backgrounds and generations”, he said.
The conference was last held in 2015 and was attended by leaders in women’s sport such as International Olympic Committee members Dato’ Low Beng Choo from Malaysia and Marisol Casado from Spain.
UAE Paralympian Thuraya Al Zaabi, Brazilian footballer Marta Vieira Da Silva, British Olympic two-time gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli from France and seven-time Paralympic medallist Muffy Davis of the US.
The conference is one of the academy’s initiatives to encourage women’s participation in sport, with the endorsement of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation.
