Messages of condolence have flooded in from across the Arab world with leaders calling UAE President Sheikh Khalifa to offer their sympathies on the death of his mother.
Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed, the first wife of UAE Founding Father Sheikh Zayed, died on Sunday and was buried after Dhuhur prayers at Al Mu’tareed Mosque in Al Ain.
On Sunday, Sheikh Khalifa received a cable of condolence from King Abdullah of Jordan, Sultan Al Qaboos of Oman and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia.
In his message, King Salman expressed his sincere sympathies and prayed for God to bestow His mercy on the deceased.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also conveyed similar messages to the UAE President.
From Bahrain, King Hamad, Prince Salman bin Hamad, Crown Prince of Bahrain, and Prince Khalifa bin Salman, Prime Minister of Bahrain, also passed on their condolences.
The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr Shawki Allam, and the Grand Imam of the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Sheikh Ahmad Al Tayeb, each mourned the death of Sheikha Hessa and expressed their "heartfelt condolences to Sheikh Khalifa, Al Nahyan family, and the people of the UAE," reported state news agency Wam.
Sheikh Khalifa also received a message of condolence from Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, emir of Qatar.
