Participants huddled together to plan their strategy and stay ahead of the pack on the final day of the Gov Games, held on Dubai’s Kite Beach on Saturday. Family, friends and colleagues gathered to wave their flags and cheer on the squads, who were representing the public sector and international government organisations over the past four days. The initiative by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council aims to promote team spirit and test mental and physical stamina of participating government entities. There was enthusiastic involvement in events including cycling, rowing and scaling obstacles from UAE female and male teams from the Ministry of Education, the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, the Ministry of Defence and the Dubai Municipality. The international squads that took a shot at the obstacles included the UK Metropolitan Police, the US Consulate General in Dubai and Thailand Royal Tourist Police. Each winning male and female team will win Dh1 million in prize money. Billed as a world first to promote collaboration across local and international government teams, organisers said the competition at the Gov Games was fierce and gruelling. Each stage was monitored by a group of judges who rated performance based on teamwork, technique and speed. Sheikh Hamdan led his group, Team F3, in the games on Friday to show his support for the initiative and to encourage team spirit among staff that will be the legacy of the games. The Gov Games have been held in partnership between the General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Dubai and the Dubai Sports Council with support from Meraas Holding. _______________ Read more: Women battle it out for Dh2m in prizes at Gov Games in Dubai Sheikh Hamdan launches Dubai Government's first staff 'Gov Games' More than 1 million people took part in Dubai Fitness Challenge _______________
