One of America's top generals made a poignant visit to the UAE's memorial for fallen soldiers. James C McConville, chief of staff of the army, visited Wahat Al Karama on Tuesday, where he laid a wreath in honour of Emirati soldiers who were killed in action. He also wrote a moving message in the visitor's log, expressing his utmost respect for the martyrs of the UAE. The memorial opened in 2016 and consists of thirty-one panels leaning on one another to portray unity and solidarity. Also on Tuesday Gen McConville met Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, for a wide-ranging discussion on co-operation between America and the UAE. He was in the UAE as the joint military exercises between the UAE and the United States, dubbed 'Iron Union 12', were held. Gen McConville has a distinguished military career and served in the 2003 Iraq war and in Afghanistan. He is also a skilled aviator and has flown the Apache attack helicopter, among others.
