A Yemeni family has been reunited in the UAE after enduring 15 years apart. The relatives, who are Jewish, were able to meet after Emirati authorities helped them travel to the country from Yemen and the UK, state news agency Wam reported. Video footage of the moment they were reunited showed visibly emotional family members, some meeting for the first time. They expressed their joy at their reunion after the long separation – one woman said she never thought the day would come. After meeting his children, the father of the family said: “I feel as if I were reborn today. I am so happy to have met all my children and grandchildren. I am also overjoyed to be in the UAE. The family thanked the Emirati authorities for helping to make the reunion happen. “It was nothing short of a miracle and the realisation of an impossible dream,” they said. “This is an example of the UAE’s humanitarian approach, as well as of its noble values of tolerance and coexistence.” A delicate peace process under UN auspices is under way in Yemen to end five years of violence in the country. The conflict has required one of the world’s largest humanitarian responses and the UAE sent billions of dirhams in aid to alleviate the Yemeni people’s suffering.
