The UAE on Friday reported its lowest daily number of new coronavirus cases this year, with 1,215 infections. Before this, the lowest cases were reported on May 17, when 1,229 people were infected, followed by 1,251 infections on May 16. Daily infections have stayed below 1,300 for three days in a row. The figures on Friday were released after 277,855 PCR tests were carried out in the past 24 hours. So far, more than 69.3 million tests have been conducted in the country since the beginning of the outbreak. The daily caseload brings the total number of infections to 699,381. Total deaths reached 1,994 after two patients died overnight. Another 1,390 people beat the virus and total recoveries reached 676,956. There are 20,431 active cases in the country. More than 17.2 million vaccines have been administered since the UAE embarked on a nationwide vaccination campaign in December 2020. On Thursday, authorities said 81.67 per cent of the UAE population had received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose, while 72.68 per cent are fully vaccinated. Globally, more than 205.2 million people are known to have been infected and 4,506,583 have died, according to a Reuters tally. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
