Another 1,092 cases of Covid-19 were detected on Sunday after 98,562 tests were carried out. The new infections took the country's tally to 186,041 since the first cases were reported in late January. Authorities said 670 people were cleared of Covid-19, taking the recovery total to 164,349. More than 88 per cent of the country's cases have ended in recovery. One patient died of related complications, taking the death toll to 618. The UAE's Covid-19 death rate to date is about 0.3 per cent – a figure authorities say is among the world's lowest. The number of people across the Emirates with the virus is 21,074, the highest number of active cases since the outbreak began. The UAE has conducted more than 18.5 million Covid-19 tests, making it one of the largest screening programmes per capita worldwide. A nationwide vaccination programme is also under way with China's Sinopharm inoculations now available to the public. One of the country's largest hospital groups said it was expecting to deliver up to 5,000 Covid-19 shots a day. VPS Healthcare, chosen to help the government distribute the vaccine, said the 18 hospitals and clinics it runs would have doses available. Vaccinations can be booked, free of charge, across the UAE.
