The UAE recorded 1,205 Covid-19 cases on Sunday, bringing its total to 158,990. A further 791 people overcame the virus as the recovery tally rose to 148,871. Four patients died as the death toll in the Emirates moved to 552. The number of active cases in the country has risen to 9,567. The latest infections were identified following an additional 110,952 daily tests. Close to 15.8 million tests have been conducted nationwide since the outbreak began. Officials have adopted a mass screening strategy in an effort to limit the spread of coronavirus. The authorities have sought to make testing more affordable and widely accessible by introducing drive-though screening centres, reducing the cost of tests and even allowing shoppers to take nasal swabs at malls. On Sunday, Dubai's health authority introduced a saliva test for children to avoid the need for uncomfortable nasal swabs. Young people who are travelling abroad or are getting tested as a precaution can visit one of 19 government-run centres. The saliva alternative is in use for children aged between 3 and 16. It involves spitting into a tube which is then sealed and tested. The UAE typically tests more than 100,000 people per day.
