Lisa Kingsley, the founder of Basics UAE, a support group for people who need medical treatment, is trying to raise funds to cover medical bills for Lynn Del Rosario.
The bills have so far amounted to more than Dh70,000 and continue to rise at an average of Dh25,000 a week.
Of this, only Dh10,000 has been paid by Ms Del Rosario's sponsor. Treating her pneumonia alone costs about Dh4,000 every three days, and another Dh25,000 is needed to give Ms Del Rosario the specialised burn treatment she needs.
Ms Del Rosario's post-treatment care is also a concern, Ms Kingsley said. She is trying to approach private healthcare institutions for pro bono plastic surgery and eye treatment.
"As you can see she's going to be permanently disfigured. Her eyes and her skin are our biggest concerns," Ms Kingsley said.
"We've got at least one to two years of plastic surgery and it's going to cost hundreds and thousands of dirhams. More than anything, she needs to feel she's not alone.
"Any support that we can give her will make a difference."
To help support Ms Del Rosario, visit the Basics UAE Facebook page or email Ms Kingsley at lisa.mk@hotmail.co.uk.
