The health authorities in the UAE are urging the public to get vaccinated against Covid-19 as cases rise worldwide. They renewed their call this week after the country exceeded 3,000 daily cases for the first time. More than 1.8 million vaccine doses were given to Emiratis and residents since the start of a campaign last month. The UAE authorised use of the Sinopharm vaccine across the country. In Dubai, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is also available to prioritised groups. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to get vaccinated in the Emirates. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available at seven Dubai Health Authority facilities. These are: Al Safa Primary Healthcare Centre, Zabeel Primary Healthcare Centre, Al Mizhar Primary Healthcare Centre, Nad Al Hamr Primary Healthcare Centre, Al Barsha Primary Healthcare Centre, Uptown Mirdif Medical Fitness Centre and Hatta Hospital. Doses are initially available to people over 60, anyone with chronic diseases, people with disabilities, frontline workers and those in essential sectors. Vaccination for the rest of the emirate's population is planned for April. The vaccine is available only to Dubai residents who fall into the above categories. To register, a medical record number with the DHA is needed. This can be created on the DHA website. After submitting your Emirates ID number, a one-time pin – or OTP – will be sent to your registered mobile number. The system accepts only people who have a Dubai residency visa. The MRN cannot be created for visa holders of other emirates. Once you have a MRN number, you can book an appointment through the DHA app or using its toll-free number: 800342. A DHA account or UAE Pass number is needed to register using the app. After clicking on Book Covid-19 Vaccine, you will have to answer questions that determine your eligibility to receive the vaccine. Appointments can be scheduled at the nearest centre. A text message is then sent to confirm the appointment. Everyone has to read the consent form before being vaccinated. Appointments are needed to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. These are organised through the DHA, a customer service agent told The National. The following vaccination centres are open from 7.30am to 9.30am: Al Safa Primary Healthcare Centre, Zabeel Primary Healthcare Centre, Al Mizhar Primary Healthcare Centre, Al Barsha Primary Healthcare Centre and Uptown Mirdif Medical Fitness Centre. The remaining two centres are open 24 hours: Nad Al Hamr Primary Healthcare Centre and Hatta Hospital. The Sinopharm vaccine is available to anyone over the age of 18 at more than 152 centres across the country. Home visits can also be booked for elderly Emiratis and residents on request. It is available at all clinics run by Abu Dhabi's public health operator, Seha; at Ministry of Health and Prevention centres; and at several private hospitals across the country, as well as in some majales. Health centres that come under the UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention accept walk-ins, a customer service agent at the ministry told The National. But appointments are needed for vaccination centres and drive-through centres operated by Seha. Residents can book appointments on the Seha app. Appointments are also needed to get vaccinated at private hospitals in the country. People deemed to have high blood pressure at the time of their vaccination will be denied the injection.
