ABU DHABI // The UAE's first society of spine specialists was launched yesterday by the Dubai Bone and Joint Centre. The Emirates Spine Society will hold six meetings a year and quarterly forums will be held, at which the public will be able to ask questions about spinal care and the effects of surgery. It will also run a website for medical professionals and the public The society will be chaired by Dr Zbiggy J. Brodzinsky, a consultant orthopaedic spinal surgeon.
Dr Brodzinsky said the society's mission is to "improve the quality of life for a large segment of the population living with back pain and chronic back deformities, as well as to reduce the burden of spine disorders on society. In September it was announced that a spine centre would be built in Abu Dhabi, and run by the Wooridul Spine Hospital in South Korea. It is expected to be finished by 2010.
