A girl has been airlifted to hospital after suffering from severe abdominal pain. An Abu Dhabi Police helicopter rescue unit took the 10-year-old girl from her home on Dalma Island, 42 kilometres off the coast of Abu Dhabi, to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City for emergency treatment. Police said the mission fell within their goal of responding to emergencies within record time. Air wing units have been used across the UAE for many years to transport people in remote areas in emergency situations to safety or to ensure faster response times for people suffering from a health condition. Common missions include rescuing stranded hikers in the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah and emergency transport to hospitals. Each station will include a helipad and a joint centre, with teams from the Air Wing, Ambulance and Civil Defence, said Ahmad Al Hamadai, director of roads department at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development. The stations, he said, aim to reduce road mortality rates, response time to accidents on main roads as well as boost traffic safety. _______________ Read more: Three people recovering after Abu Dhabi Air Wing rescue Three helipads to be built at Dubai Metro stations to aid medics
