More than 30,000 consumer products which failed to meet health standards have been taken out of circulation and destroyed in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Municipality's public health department joined forces with Tadweer, the emirate's waste management authority, to seize six tonnes of goods. Saeed Mohammad Karwash Al Rumaithi, president of the public health department at Abu Dhabi Municipality, said the authority carries out stringent inspections to ensure products being sold comply with quality and health standards set by the UAE government. Mr Al Rumaithi called on members of the public to only purchase items, such as cosmetics and personal hygiene products, from official sources. “These inspection and monitoring campaigns reflect the municipality’s keenness on safeguarding consumers and ridding the markets of all products that entered the market without the relevant entities’ approval of their validity to use and consume,” said Mr Al Rumaithi.
