Hygiene inspectors have shut down an Indian restaurant in the capital due to failures over hygiene. Thamer Al Qasimi, from Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, said several warnings were issued against Anjappar Chettinad Restaurant on Khalidiya Street. Mr Al Qasimi said inspectors found staff had poor hygiene, were not properly storing food in refrigerators, had failed to place expiry date labels on products, had allowed the spread of insects and were untrained to handle food. An administrative closure order was therefore issued. “The closure order will remain effective and the restaurant can only be allowed to resume business if it improves conditions,” Mr Al Qasimi told told the Arabic media site Araa News. He urged the community to raise concerns about hygiene in any food outlet with inspectors by calling 800555. ________________ Read more: Shawarma drama: Almost half of all Dubai eateries to stop selling wraps due to hygiene failures Dubai bans 140 shawarma vendors over hygiene failures
