Emirati volunteers have signed up for key roles at the Destination Village on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche as the capital gets ready to welcome the first boats in the Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) this weekend.
As the fleet approach Abu Dhabi to complete Leg 2 of the round-the-world sailing challenge, Takatof says many volunteers are in place ready to help visitors enjoy the race stopover activities.
“It’s important that we create the best possible impression of our country in the eyes of international visitors,” said Mohammed Al Zaabi, event co-ordinator with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, which is hosting the Village. “That starts with making sure they meet the people of the UAE and Takatof does just that. They provide volunteers who are role models and can talk passionately about our country and our culture.”
Abu Dhabi is hosting 23 days of watersports, entertainment and cultural events to celebrate the arrival of the racing fleet, which runs from December 12 to January 3.
The Village, which is open from noon until 9pm on weekdays and from 11am to midnight on weekends is free entry.

Electoral College Victory
Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.

The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.
