DUBAI // A customer service officer stopped his car outside a tea shop, asked for change for a Dh500 note and three prepaid phone cards, then drove away without paying, a court has heard.
On Sunday, E S, 27, a Yemeni, appeared at Dubai Criminal Court charged with theft.
The shop worker, A P, said that on May 12 the defendant had asked for the du cards and the change. “I gave them to him and he drove away,” A P said.
A P clung on to the car as it sped off, but E S hit him with a plastic bottle. The worker lost his grip and fell to the ground, along with the bottle.
Police managed to trace the defendant through fingerprints he left on the bottle. After his arrest, he allegedly confessed to the charges.
But in court on Sunday he denied the charges. The next hearing will be on September 2.
