Man jailed for kidnapping and trying to rape teenager in Dubai has sentence appeal rejected

A man who was locked up for three years after kidnapping a teenage student before stripping him naked and attempting to rape him has had his appeal against his sentence dismissed.

The jobless offender, 25, befriended the victim, 19, only to subject him to a horrendous ordeal alongside a gang of other men, who have yet to be caught.

The Emirati defendant had denied charges of kidnap, attempted rape, sex assault, physical assault and theft at court last year but was convicted and handed a three-year jail term.

The incident took place on April 24 of last year.

"I met him near a gaming centre in Abu Hail and we chatted then his friends arrived and suggested a short drive," said the student, who was then taken to a deserted area in Al Warqa and assaulted by the defendant and his friends, breaking his nose in the process.

He said they wanted to take turns raping him and they ripped off his clothes, then took pictures of him naked before letting him go.

"I was driven home by a mutual friend who asked me not to call police but when I got home, my father saw the bruises and blood on my face and he insisted on questioning me and the friend separately then, when he knew, he called police," said the student.

The teenager’s car was also stolen by the defendant but it was later located in Ajman.

The student’s father, a 48-year-old officer at the Ministry of Interior, told prosecutors that his son was in very bad shape when he returned home on the day of the incident.

When the defendant was arrested, police found two pictures of the victim on his phone.

Dubai Criminal Court sentenced him to three years but he appealed seeking a reduced sentence.

His plea was rejected as the sentence was upheld in appeals court, which ordered the confiscation of the man’s mobile phone.
