ABU DHABI // A medical examiner has been summoned to the state security court to comment on the condition of a man accused of backing ISIL.
On Monday, the man’s defence lawyer, Hamdan Al Zeyoodi, asked the court to discuss the state of his client with the head of the medical committee that originally examined him.
The committee’s initial report stated the accused, A A B, 31, as responsible for his actions, despite claims his psychological condition played a part in his crimes.
Mr Al Zeyoodi previously reported to the court that A A B was hospitalised in a psychological ward on October 7.
Prosecutors had accused A A B, 31, of setting up several online accounts where he published ideas that created “havoc”, spread hate, harmed the unity of the state and affected the peacefulness of society. He also used the accounts to promote ISIL and motivate people to accept their message.
He was also accused of backing the organisation financially, and spraying ISIL’s logo on a wall in Suweihan area and writing “it will remain”, which he then photographed and posted on Twitter.
The court ordered that both the accused and the medical examiner appear in court on January 18.
