DUBAI // Two men who attacked a tailor with a pair of scissors and snatched a bag containing more than Dh500,000 will each spend the next three years in jail.
Dubai Criminal Court was told that the tailor’s cousin handed him the money while he was parking his car. As he walked into his shop in Naif, the two Nigerians, 28 and 31, barged in and waved scissors in his face.
One grabbed the bag of money and ran off while the other was restrained by the tailor.
The cousin, 35, said he was given Dh563,000 in cash by his boss to buy mobile phones for the electronics store at which he works in Abu Dhabi.
“When I arrived in Naif I didn’t want to keep the bag next to me in the car while I parked, so I called my cousin to pick it up until I parked,” he said. “I thought the cash would be safer with him.”
Police said the man who was restrained by the tailor told officers where the second robber was hiding. He was arrested in a flat in Al Nahda, Sharjah.
Both men denied a theft charge in court but were found guilty. They will be deported after serving their jail terms.
