Men ‘posed as CID and stole from six people’ in Dubai apartment

DUBAI // Two men pretending to be CID officers entered an apartment and stole six passports and a mobile phone from the people inside, Dubai Criminal Court was told.

K R, 37, and K E, 31, who are both jobless and hold Comoros Islands passports, denied charges of theft and the confinement of six people, who they locked in the flat.

Records show that at almost 7pm on February 25 this year K R and K E, who were dressed in traditional Emirati kanduras, entered a flat in Bur Dubai where Pakistani M S, 27, and five other people were gathered.

“I was there checking the flat because I was looking for a place for friends of mine when the men came in and said they were CID officers and asked for my passport, then one of them punched me on the nose and demanded I pay them Dh15,000,” said M S.

He said K R and K E stole his passport and those belonging to the five others. “They also took my phone before they locked us all inside and left at around midnight,” said M S.

K R and K E told prosecutors they only took the passports to force M S to repay them an old debt.

The next hearing will be on December 20.
