DUBAI // Officials from the Pakistan People's Party are unable to confirm whether the country's president, Asif Ali Zardari, is to return to Dubai for medical tests.
The media in Pakistan has reported that Mr Zardari, 56, who underwent treatment for a previously diagnosed "cardiovascular condition" in the emirate in December, may return today for further tests.
A senior Pakistan People's Party (PPP) official in Dubai said: "We do not have any confirmation from his official spokesman in Pakistan or other officials, but he may very well come here today."
Geo TV reported that Mr Zardari would fly back to the UAE, with other media stating he would be admitted to the American Hospital in Oud Metha and stay for two days.
This was later denied by PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira, reported The News in Pakistan.
"There is a lot of talk in Pakistan about Mr Zardari having medical tests but I have no more information about that," said the Dubai official.
Mr Zardari travelled to Dubai on December 6 to receive treatment for "numbness and twitching" in his left arm and a loss of consciousness he suffered for a few seconds while in Pakistan.
He was treated at the American Hospital where he remained under observation for about nine days.

Founded in 1985 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory (CVRL) is a government diagnostic centre that provides testing and research facilities to the UAE and neighbouring countries.
One of its main goals is to provide permanent treatment solutions for veterinary related diseases.
The taxidermy centre was established 12 years ago and is headed by Dr Ulrich Wernery.

Anxiety, work stress and social isolation are all factors in the recogised rise in mental health problems.
A study UAE Ministry of Health researchers published in the summer also cited struggles with weight and illnesses as major contributors.
Its authors analysed a dozen separate UAE studies between 2007 and 2017. Prevalence was often higher in university students, women and in people on low incomes.
One showed 28 per cent of female students at a Dubai university reported symptoms linked to depression. Another in Al Ain found 22.2 per cent of students had depressive symptoms - five times the global average.
It said the country has made strides to address mental health problems but said: “Our review highlights the overall prevalence of depressive symptoms and depression, which may long have been overlooked."
Prof Samir Al Adawi, of the department of behavioural medicine at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, who was not involved in the study but is a recognised expert in the Gulf, said how mental health is discussed varies significantly between cultures and nationalities.
“The problem we have in the Gulf is the cross-cultural differences and how people articulate emotional distress," said Prof Al Adawi.
“Someone will say that I have physical complaints rather than emotional complaints. This is the major problem with any discussion around depression."
