A delighted family started Eid Al Fitr with a bundle of joy as they welcomed a new baby into the world. Houda Ayyad, an Omani, gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 3.64kg at 10.16pm on Monday at the NMC Speciality Hospital in Al Ain, just hours after the moon sighting committee announced the Eid holiday would commence on Tuesday. The parents are yet to name the boy, who is their third child. “We are delighted the baby was born on the last day of Ramadan,” said the baby’s father, Ali Suhail Amer Al Nuaimi, an Emirati working with the armed forces. “It was special for us as he arrived so soon after the announcement of Eid Al Fitr.” At Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi, new parents Mohamad Yaser Al Shaikh and Kholood Salem Al Dhaheri were also celebrating a new arrival in the early hours of Eid Al Fitr. Ali Mohamad Al Shaikh was born at 12.01am. “To be blessed with a healthy baby makes our day even more joyous,” said Mr Al Shaikh. “The medical team and staff have taken excellent care of us and our family during this time, and we are thankful for their support.” Meanwhile, new mums at Danat Al Emarat hospital welcomed three babies in the early hours of Eid Al Fitr, and 11 on the last day of Ramadan, six girls and five boys. Doctors there helped to deliver 427 newborns during the Holy Month, of which 195 were Emiratis, and 14 twins. Of the total, 196 were girls, and 231 were boys. Ahmed Mahmoud Zahid from Afghanistan and Ayesha Abdullatif Al Butaih, an Emirati, welcomed their new child 40 minutes into Eid Al Fitr. “My wife’s due date was June 17, but with Allah's will she started having labor symptoms on the last day of Ramadan,” said Mr Zahid. “Here we are now celebrating the birth of our second child on the first day of Eid Al Fitr. “Baby Mohammed and my wife are in good health. “His sister Mahra has been waiting for him, and our celebration today is doubled with his birth and Eid.”
