DUBAI // A man who allegedly forged documents to rent a Porsche then tried to sell it to an undercover police officer, a court heard on Sunday.
Criminal Court prosecutors said that Pakistanis M A, 34, and T A, 38, forged papers including a Pakistani passport, residency stamp and a driving licence, which they used to rent a 2013 Porsche Cayenne.
They said the pair had also forged a document to ship the vehicle abroad if it failed to sell.
Car rental employee A A, 32, said M A came to their Abu Hail office and requested a Range Rover, but they only had the Porsche. He then provided the documents, including a passport, paid the Dh1,000 daily charge, and took the SUV.
“Two days later I called him and asked him to pay the rest,” A A said. “He did not and stopped taking my calls.”
M A was arrested when police discovered he was trying to sell the SUV online for Dh35,000. He denied this.
The second accused was arrested for aiding and abetting. They were charged with forging documents and using them to rent the vehicle.
M A is charged with unlawfully obtaining the vehicle and trying to sell it.
He told the court that he used the documents to rent the Porsche but did not know they were forged, and denied trying to sell the vehicle.
A verdict is expected on October 28.
