Queen honours British UAE diplomats

ABU DHABI // Queen Elizabeth II has honoured two of her diplomats in the UAE for their contributions to her state visit last week.

The Queen yesterday conferred membership of the Royal Victorian Order on her UAE Ambassador, Dominic Jermey, and the second secretary political, Sue Elliott. Mr Jermey was appointed Commander of the Victorian Order, while Ms Elliott was appointed Member of the Victorian Order (MVO).

The British Embassy said the awards had been made for "distinguished personal service to the reigning monarch of the Commonwealth realms".

The Royal Victorian Order is a scheme of awards given by the monarch to any citizen of the Commonwealth to recognise a special personal service to the sovereign.

"I am delighted [to receive the award], and it reflects Her Majesty's pleasure at the whole visit," Mr Jermey said. "I feel immensely privileged to be singled out in this way and see this as an award for all of us - on the Emirati and British sides - who made Her Majesty's return visit such an outstanding success."

Ms Elliott said: "It was a huge honour to receive the MVO from the Queen. The success of the visit is a reflection of the enormous team effort between both Embassy and Emirati colleagues".

Electoral College Victory

Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.

Popular Vote Tally

The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.
