Runaway maid sold as a prostitute, Dubai court told

DUBAI // A runaway maid was sold as a prostitute by a man she met on Facebook, a court has heard.

Records show on February 22 the anti-human trafficking department at Dubai police was tipped off that Bangladeshi M A, 28, was trying to sell two women for Dh4,000 each.

Undercover officers contacted him and agreed to buy a girl from him for Dh3,000 after paying Dh500 upfront, Emirati police officer J B, 41, told prosecutors.

M A was later arrested.

The maid told prosecutors that she wanted to escape from her sponsor’s home. She said she would sleep with men for money, and gave the Bangladeshi a share of the cash.

At Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday, M A denied all the allegations. The next hearing is on May 26.
