The UAE is looking for 20 young environmental champions to represent the country at major events this year. Connect with Nature, a programme which encourages youngsters to help protect the environment, has launched its Ambassadors for Nature competition to find worthy candidates. The initiative will give those involved the opportunity to address critical issues such as the impact of climate change as well as learn more about the importance of protecting nature. The initiative is supported by Emirates Nature-WWF and the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi. Anyone between the ages of 15 and 30 can apply. “In line with the UAE’s vision to build a sustainable future, we are pleased to announce the launch of our very first 20 for 2020 UAE Ambassadors for Nature competition, which encourages youth to take a step forward and make the difference towards a better future," said Laila Abdullatif, director general at Emirates Nature-WWF. "Our ambassadors will be committed role models to the upcoming generations and help to drive the UAE’s increasingly important nature and environment initiatives.” To apply, applicants must download the Connect with Nature mobile app and earn five 'explore' badges by discovering the UAE's natural wonders. They must also earn five 'impact' badges by making a positive impact on the planet. Additionally, potential young ambassadors must refer at least 10 friends to the Connect with Nature movement as well as create a video explaining the changes they wish to make as an ambassador. The deadline for the competition is April 22. Winners will be announced on Environment Day on June 5.
