ABU DHABI // Excavations carried out by the Antiquities and Heritage Department in Umm Al Quwain have unearthed a settlement dating back to the 6th millennium BC, archaeological ruins from 7,000 years ago, as well as other discoveries going back as far as 5,000 years.
The oldest natural pearl in the world, at about 7,500 years old, was also found at the Umm Al Quwain 2 site.
The surveys and excavations have contributed to understanding how people lived thousands of years ago, reported Wam, the state news agency.
In a statement, the department explained: “The objective of exploration is to discover the effects of those who have gone before us and try to identify their customs and traditions.”
