Sharjah Biennial enters last weekend with workshops

SHARJAH // Visitors to the Sharjah Biennial who have spent the past two months admiring the wealth of art on display will have a chance to create works of their own.

Tomorrow's Drawing the Biennial will enable young and old to take part in workshops in disciplines ranging from origami to drawing, collage and theatre.

The Emirati artist Ebtisam Abdulaziz will run a workshop inspired by her Biennial work, Women's Circles, which consists of photographs of a woman dressed in black posing with a white circle.

"I think Drawing the Biennial is a great idea," said Ms Abdulaziz. "Sometimes what frustrates me is when people come and can't understand our work, so it's a way to make that gap smaller because we can get in touch, we can have the dialogue and explain."

Another workshop will be based on the Emirati artist Abdullah al Saadi's Biennial exhibit, Camar Cande's Journey, which charted a walking tour with a dog and a donkey through the Northern Emirates and Musandam.

Farah Atoui, of the organiser Sharjah Art Foundation, said: "This day is part of our public programming, which is a constant effort to help people to engage with the Biennial, with contemporary art and with everything we do."

The free event will run from 4pm to 8pm at Sharjah Art Museum. The Biennial ends on Monday.
