A motorist suspected of killing a man in a hit and run incident on Monday was arrested by Sharjah Police. Police said the Asian driver, 47, ran over a 29-year-old pedestrian, also from Asia, on a street in Industrial Area 5 at 10.30pm before fleeing the scene. The injured man was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital, where he died shortly after. Maj Mohammed Al Shehhi, director of the Investigation and Traffic Control Department, said police collected and analysed car debris from the site and checked CCTV to identify the vehicle. “Based on the findings, the team intensified their efforts until they were able to identify and find the driver of the vehicle in a short time,” Maj Al Shehhi said. Police tracked the vehicle down to a car workshop where the motorist was attempting to remove any trace of the accident from his car to avoid being identified. The man was arrested and, following an investigation, referred to prosecutors for legal judgment.
