ABU DHABI // The President, Sheikh Khalifa, has approved a plan for a new emblem for the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
It takes the shape of a falcon with two crossing daggers underneath, with the background and sides being a white and red flag.
A banner above the bird will bear the name Abu Dhabi. Three domes will top the emblem, Wam, the state news agency reported.
The Secretariat General of Abu Dhabi Executive Council is supervising the design, development and use of the emblem to reflect the cultural legacy, value and historical importance of the emirate.
A prominent artist was selected to envisage the prototype design of the falcon, and inspiration was found in a valuable collection of daggers belonging to the Al Nahyan family.
Reflecting the heritage and history of Arabia, the current emblem of the emirate was designed by Bahraini artist Abdullah Al Mahrouqi and was first published on postal stamps in 1968.
Abu Dhabi Executive Council will release the guidelines for the use of the new emblem by government departments in official publications, gifts and promotional materials.
