Sheikh Khalifa, the President, has conferred the Order of Independence (First Class) on Dr Toby Cosgrove, chief executive of Cleveland Clinic, for his supportive contribution to the UAE health sector through the establishment of the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. “Thanks to the efforts of Dr Cosgrove and his team, the clinic has evolved and grown to join the world’s best healthcare providers with state-of-the-art amenities in the region,’’ said Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, during the presentation ceremony yesterday, Wam reported. Dr Cosgrove thanked the President and Sheikh Mohammed for the honour and praised the UAE’s commitment to developing a world-class health sector. The 364-bed Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi opened its doors in 2015. In 2006, Mubadala Development – now Mubadala Investment Company – signed an agreement with the Ohio-based health care provider to set up an Abu Dhabi facility. The project was part of the aims of Vision 2030 to develop world-class health care sector in the emirate. Sheikh Mohammed and Dr Cosgrove discussed “the UAE leadership’s vision for improving curative services” and the need for collaborative projects in the future. Dr Cosgrove is stepping down from his role at the end of the year. Sheikh Mohammed wished him success in his future assignment.
