SHARJAH // Three Asian men have been arrested on suspicion of stealing gold worth around Dh20 million from a jewellery store.
The men, two Indians and a Pakistani, allegedly the gold after breaking into a shop in the Rolla area before the Eid al Fitr public holiday, said a police spokesman.
"Police were notified of a gold heist a few days before Eid. Three men had broken into a gold shop at night and stolen all the gold," said the spokesman.
"The CID rushed to the scene. After collecting all the necessary information, the suspects were then identified and pursued."
Police also managed to recover the stolen gold and have returned it to the shop's owner. The three men have been referred to prosecutors to complete investigations.
The police spokesman urged all gold and jewellery store owners to increase security in their stores by installing surveillance cameras that are linked to the police operations room.
Five Bangladeshi men were arrested on suspicion of stealing electrical cables worth Dh500,000 from the Sajja Industrial area during the Eid holidays.
Staff from the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority reported the theft of cables and wires to police.
Officers were able to track down the five men and arrested them as they were trying to steal more cables.
They have been referred to prosecutors.

Why your domicile status is important
