ABU DHABI // A new dining venue inspired by Formula One motor racing is taking shape in the capital. The Wing - a glass-walled restaurant and lounge designed along the lines of the rear wing of an F1 car - is being built on the Corniche by Aldar Properties.
Unfortunately for racing fans, though, it will not be completed in time for this year's inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 1.
"The Wing is scheduled to officially launch at the end of 2009," its managers, Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management, said in a statement.
"We believe The Wing will become the social hub of Abu Dhabi as well as a sought-after destination for regional and international visitors," said Richard Cregan, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management.
The much anticipated arrival of the F1 grand prix in Abu Dhabi is creating a variety of new venues and restaurants, from the exclusive Amber Lounge to the bar inside a bridge over the racetrack connecting the two sides of the Yas Hotel.

HIV on the rise in the region
A 2019 United Nations special analysis on Aids reveals 37 per cent of new HIV infections in the Mena region are from people injecting drugs.
New HIV infections have also risen by 29 per cent in western Europe and Asia, and by 7 per cent in Latin America, but declined elsewhere.
Egypt has shown the highest increase in recorded cases of HIV since 2010, up by 196 per cent.
Access to HIV testing, treatment and care in the region is well below the global average.
Few statistics have been published on the number of cases in the UAE, although a UNAIDS report said 1.5 per cent of the prison population has the virus.
