More than 4,000 Dubai Municipality workers will be moved to new homes in Al Warsan this year.
The announcement was made for the municipality’s celebration of International Workers’ Day, which is marked on May 1. Charities and private companies were honoured for Ramadan donations to workers.
Additionally, the municipality sent 138 workers on Umrah last week and pledged to distribute 8,000 kits to workers daily at Ramadan iftar meals.
The new labour accommodation will meet “international housing standards”, the municipality said.
Al Warsan 2 and Al Warsan 3 are located in a developing area near International City and between the 311 and the 611 outer bypass. Al Warsan 2 district contains the desert palm polo club, Al Aweer Sewage Treatment Plant and a power station. State-funded housing for Emiratis is also planned for the area, according to a Dubai government announcement in April.

The municipality statement did not specify where the workers currently reside.
Previous plans to provide workers with high standard housing have been met with mixed success.
The Industrial City Abu Dhabi in Abu Dhabi's Mussaffah district has supermarkets, public transport, restaurants and parks. It meets high sanitation standards. Nonetheless, its residents frequently complain that it is an isolating and regimented place outside the city.
In 2015, the compound housed 26,000 people. Residents do not pay for accommodation, which is arranged by their companies.
