Three people burned to death after their vehicle caught fire on Maliha Road on Monday, according to Sharjah Police.
Two Emirati men and an Asian housemaid were travelling in a private car when, at 12pm, the tyre burst. The driver swerved and crashed into a cement barrier near exit number three, said Maj Abdul Rahman Khater, director of traffic awareness at Sharjah Police.
The car burst into flames and all three died, he said.
“We know that a number of people were present at the time of the accident and some filmed the accident,” Maj Khater said.
Police, civil defence and rescue teams rushed to the scene to pull the driver and passengers from the vehicle but they were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Crowding around accidents is against UAE law and Maj Khater said those who broke the law on Monday will be subjected to a Dh1,000 fine.
In an announcement he made on the radio, he said those who filmed the accident face legal action should they share the video online.
