DUBAI // Three men who were given three years in jail each for attempted rape have lost an appeal against the sentence.
The Dubai Criminal Court convicted Bangladeshis, A K, 25, A M, 28, and M M, 29, last February. The court heard that they saw the female victim and a friend having dinner on December 22, 2013, and decided to rape her.
They attacked the woman and her friend, with two of them dragging the man away from his female companion to a dark alley where they assaulted him and stole Dh1,400 and a mobile phone.
“The two threatened that they will all rape my friend if I didn’t give them my money and phone so I gave them what they wanted then ran away to my friend and found that the third man had pushed her into my car, took off his trousers and was trying to rape her, but when he saw me he ran away,” said B B, 29, from Nepal.
B B said that he shouted for help from security guards nearby, who caught all three men and called police.
T G, 31, also Nepali, said in records that she had been threatened to be gang raped if she did not give in willingly to having sex with the defendants.
The three man denied charges of attempted rape, threatening to kill and theft. However they were all found guilty and sentenced to jail terms to be followed by deportation, which was upheld by the Dubai Court of Appeal.
