Tourist sentenced for taking voyeuristic photos

A British tourist was sentenced to six months in prison by a judge at the Criminal Court of First Instance today for taking voyeuristic pictures of women at Dubai's largest mall. LR, a 28-year-old electrician, placed a mobile phone camera inside a shopping basket at Carrefour, at the Mall of the Emirates in May this year, which he used to take underskirt pictures of women. His behaviour alerted security guards after female shoppers complained they were being stalked at the shopping mall. The man was later arrested by Dubai police officers. The court saw photographs of two women stored on the defendant's mobile phone, which appeared to be obscene in nature. LR had earlier pleaded guilty in an attempt to gain court sympathy, however, his sentence is testimony to Dubai Courts tough stance on anti-social behaviour. He was out on bail before his sentencing today. On May 16 an 18-year-old visitor from Azerbaijan was also sentenced to six months in prison and deportation for taking pictures of a voyeuristic nature at a Dubai mall. @Email:shafez@thenational.ae
