Abu Dhabi Police offer training courses to reduce drivers' black points

Drivers will have the chance to cut the number of black points on their licence or get a licence or car back by completing a training course, Abu Dhabi Police said on Tuesday.

The force has launched three training programmes, the first of which will grant drivers who have 8 to 23 black points a maximum deduction of eight points per year, if they pass.

Drivers who have more than 24 black points and their driving licence has been withdrawn can benefit from the second programme, while motorists who got a car confiscation order can enrol in the third programme.

Major General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, director-general of Abu Dhabi Police, said that the schemes will help traffic offenders rectify their ways and achieve greater compliance with road traffic legislation.

“The programme will be an opportunity to traffic offenders to change their driving behaviour and comply with the traffic rules and legislation,” he said, adding that the three programmes will also boost road safety and awareness.

The training will be provided at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate buildings in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, with more information available by calling the police services line on 600 566006.

Emirates Driving Company is also offering a traffic black points reduction programme that gives motorists the opportunity to reduce the number of black points on their licence through lessons consisting of theory tuition and a simulator course.

Other traffic training courses are offered by the General Department of Traffic to reduce black points and to spread traffic awareness to drivers faced with having their licence withdrawn due to repeated offences.
