Almost 70 children caught driving their parents' cars to school, police say

Sixty-nine school pupils have been caught driving without a licence in Ras Al Khaimah since the beginning of the academic year, police said.
"Traffic awareness starts from home then school and then the last stage is the road. Parents must join forces with the traffic police and teach their children how to respect laws and, of course, they must not allow their under-aged sons and daughters to drive without a licence," said RAK Police chief Ali Abdullah Alwan Al Nuaimi.
He added that the campaign aims to cut down numbers of traffic accidents and raise safety awareness among school pupils after it was spotted that many of them were driving their parents' vehicles to schools.
"There is a strong presence of traffic officers near schools across the emirate to catch students who drive their parents' cars from and to school without having a licence and, of course, they are all under the age which allows them to get a licence," he said.
The chief added that police will not be lenient with violators and action will be taken against those caught driving without a licence.

"We will study the outcomes of this campaign then set up procedures that will help reduce the number of driving without a licence violations," he said.
The campaign will continue unit the end of this month.
